About the University
The Universidad de Chile was founded on the 19th of November, 1842. It is the oldest higher education institution in Chile. The Universidad de Chile is one of only 10 Latin American universities ranked among the world’s top 500. It has been at the forefront of Chilean history, politics, economics, social and cultural affairs since its foundation in 1842. Among its most distinguished alumni can be found: Twenty Presidents of the Republic, Five Central Bank Presidents, Two Nobel Literature Prize winners: Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral, 155 National Prize Winners over a range of disciplines including Humanities, Journalism, Theatre, Music, Literature and History, A vast number of past and present Cabinet ministers and secretaries of state. The Universidad de Chile is famous regionally for the quality and breadth of its research ventures, for the scholarly distinction of its faculty, for the excellence of its Ph.D. programs and for the amount of public and private funding received in support of its research programs. It actively contributes to Chile’s progress and development through its research activities, which account for no less than 40% of the scientific and technological research undertaken in the entire country. Its research facilities include: a Space Research Center in collaboration with international agencies; an Antarctic Research Center; a Center for National Statistics; an official seismologic service and monitoring of volcanoes; the largest general hospital in the country; Byzantine, Neo-Hellenic, Arabian and Judaic Culture Research Centers; and the Institute for Easter Island Studies (among others). At our own Faculty, the Microdata Center is Chile´s most distinguished research and data collection center on microeconomic issues such as unemployment, education, poverty and income distribution.
About the Department
The Faculty of Economics and Business or Facultad de Economía y Negocios (FEN) of the Universidad de Chile is one of Latin America’s leading Business Schools. FEN offers a first-class, internationally competitive education in Business Administration, Economics, Information Systems & Management Control, and Auditing, on a bachelor and masters level, along with a range of MBA programs, a highly regarded Economics PhD and flexible executive education.
